Casual and Comfortable in Blue with Catherines

I have zero idea how we’re at the tail end of February, but here we are! I’m going to blame the bathroom reno for my delay in getting going this year. It was a big energy drain, but totally worth it.

This winter has been gray and wet, which means my wardrobe choices have revolved around comfort. I mentioned earlier that I’ve been gravitating towards basics, and this outfit is another example of that. Don’t get it twisted: basics don’t mean boring! They mean versatility. Enter this look from Catherines:

ComfySoft Button Bliss Duet Scarf Tunic c/o Catherines
Ponte Knit Leggings c/o Catherines
Catching Dreams Drop Earrings c/o Catherines

First of all, those of you who immediately thought of how perfect this look is for cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats – you are my people! That’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw this tunic. And the scarf? It’s attached! And also detachable. I’m always here for a two-in-one piece. There’s a lot of versatility here:

  • Detach the scarf and wear the tunic with jeans and a statement necklace
  • Wear the scarf and tunic together as I have here with leggings and add a long, cozy cardigan and sneakers
  • Wear the scarf on its own on top of your favorite team tee
  • For work, take a basic white button-down blouse with some black trousers and layer the scarf on as a necklace
  • If your hair is long enough for a ponytail, you could tie the scarf on it

The leggings from Catherines made it to my “favorite plus size basics” list earlier this year for good reason. They are super comfortable, are thick (zero chance of a peep show), and wash really well. They come in 4 colors and a wide range of sizes, including petite and tall lengths.

Fit notes: I was tempted to size up on the tunic because I’m so conditioned to tunics not being long enough since I’m 5’10 and really long-torsoed, but I’m glad I resisted the urge and ordered my normal Catherines size 3X. It is a relaxed and easy fit, with a lot of length. I’m also wearing my 3X leggings, though I also own them in a 4X which are more for lounging around the house. Or for when I want leggings that I can pull really high on my waist. (Seriously, if I could pull all my pants up to almost my bra line, I’d be a happy camper. I love the extra coverage.)

As always, I have to give major props to Catherines and their plus size range. It’s one of only a few companies that has extended plus up to a 34W, and they always have a great selection of styles that go from casual to professional.

How are you all feeling about the beginning of the year so far? Anyone else playing catch up?
